- A three-day manhunt for a convicted killer ended Friday night when he was arrested by Chicago police, according to the Kankakee County Sheriff's Office.
Kamron T. Taylor, 23, was taken into custody in Chicago on Friday night, according to Kankakee County Undersheriff Mike Downey and the Chicago Police Department.
Fourth District officers were on patrol about 9 p.m. Friday when they responded to a call of a suspicious person near the 9200 block of South Stony Island Avenue, according to a statement from Chicago police.
Two Fourth District officers -- Matthew Kozlovski and Montilla Oberrian -- spotted Taylor, and as they approached, Taylor began to run. After a brief foot chase, the officers arrested Taylor about a block away in the 9200 block of South Harper Avenue and found he had a loaded .38-caliber revolver, police said. Taylor was taken into custody without injury, authorities said.
After his arrest, Taylor refused to identify himself and then identified himself as Tryeon Smith of Joliet, police said. But the two officers thought he fit the description of the escaped fugitive and got in touch with the sheriff's office. They were then able to positively identify him as Taylor by his tattoos, police said, and later by his fingerprints.
