No Punishment for Guns?

So this "gun bill" Special Ed has been pushing is plodding through Springfield, a political hot potato because it will require offenders, many of whom are minority, to spend a lot more time in jail, which is something too many politicians have promised is a bad thing.

This part of the bill made us laugh out loud though:
  • Raoul said he also plans on filing a bill that will create a diversion program for first-time offenders charged with carrying a gun. Those offenders would have to have a documented and diagnosed incident of trauma that can be linked to them carrying a gun.
  • Maurice Harris’ father — 37-year-old Jerry Jacobs, who had nearly four dozen arrests, including two for murder — was gunned down on a sidewalk in the South Shore neighborhood around 11:15 p.m. on March 29.

The next day, his son appears to have been out for revenge, police say.
This is the guy who murdered four people on the south side the other day. His sperm donor got killed, so he can claim "a documented and diagnosed incident of trauma" under Raoul's proposal. We don't know his record, but since the Sun Times doesn't publish it, we'll just assume he's a "first-time offender" under Prickwrinkle/Foxxx/Dart crime determinations.

Another great idea from the giant minds in Springfield.
