(Examiner cartoonist Nate Beeler)We certainly have the pulse of the national elections this year:
- A few weeks ago, after his former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago, first drew headlines for his fiery sermons, Barack Obama responded with a graceful speech on race in America. But Rev. Wright has decided he isn't about to shut up and launched a series of provocative remarks over the weekend and on Monday. On Tuesday afternoon, Obama denounced Wright, saying "His comments were not only divisive... but I believe that they end up giving comfort to those who prey on hate." The candidate added, "Whatever relationship I had with Reverend Wright has changed as a consequence of this."
We can hardly wait for the Democratic Convention. In a perfect world, the so called "super delegates" throw this thing into a tizzy, either by nominating Hillary despite her trailing in the popular vote or they toss it to someone not even on the ballot, like Gore. And Jesse, Al, the NAACP will attempt to take their ball and go home with it, throwing the entire democratic party into an all-out war.
Hopefully, this is the end result:
Hopefully, this is the end result:
- The ultra leftists who hijacked the party in the 1960's will be marginalized the way they should have been years ago. They die out in 30 years along with the hippie remnants.
- A moderate Democratic party, albeit a much smaller party, apologizes to Joe Lieberman and Zell Miller and attempt to reconnect with the "Reagan democrats" who deserted the part in droves circa 1980.
- The Green Party, headed by Nader makes some strides as a viable third party, but end up going the way of Libertarians - just a "little bit too out-there" for normal people.
We can dream, can't we?
