Sunday's media outlets have sobering reminders that it's only September, and there's plenty of months to go:
- A pitcher who was apparently offended when he was benched for his team’s second game in Abbott Park Sunday afternoon shot his coach multiple times before fleeing the scene.
- A young boy was struck in the head by a bullet while he was in a car on the West Side early Sunday.
- A man was shot in a drive-by early Sunday in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side, police said.
- A man attending a barbecue on the West Side was shot in the arm Saturday night.
- Four people -- three in their late teens and a 20-year-old -- were shot at a party in the South Side's West Englewood neighborhood early Sunday.
- An 11-year-old girl suffered a gunshot wound to the head when a man began shooting in the Far South Side Roseland neighborhood Saturday night.
And that was just the Sun Times. A slight reduction, while still a reduction, is not an indicator that things are turning around just yet.
